A DIAMOND-encrusted motorbike designed by Manchester United star Wayne Rooney goes under the hammer in Chester today.
Boughton-based auction house Bonhams is handling the sale of the 2012 Lauge Jensen motorcycle with estimates suggesting the bike could fetch as much as £60,000.
The bike’s finish incorporates 22 diamonds while an autographed number 10 football shirt – the number worn by England striker Rooney – has been mounted and lacquer-sealed onto the petrol tank.
Rooney’s spectacular volley against rivals Manchester City in 2011 is depicted on the rear mudguard.
“I was really excited to have the opportunity to be involved in the design of a unique ‘Wayne Rooney’ Lauge Jensen custom bike,” said Rooney. “The bike takes its inspiration from the celebration of my overhead kick against Manchester City last season.
“The goal has been described by others as being of the highest quality and technical excellence, powerful and beautiful.
“I hope you will agree that the bike is all of this and more.”
All proceeds from the sale will go to Danish charitable foundation KidsAid which helps young people affected by illness.
Rooney said: “The fact that the funds raised will go to kids in Denmark is a great way for me, on behalf of all the players at Manchester United, to say ‘thank you’ for the support we receive from the Danish people.”
