CHESTER FC supporters trust City Fans United (CFU) are backing calls for football fans to be given more say in the way the game and clubs are run.

Fans from across the UK will be lobbying the UK Parliament today at an event organised by Supporters Direct.

CFU and Chester FC director David Evans will be among those at the event to support the campaign.

Supporters Direct wants the FA to bring in new measures guaranteeing a structured relationship between supporters and clubs.

They also want the Government to make it easier for fans to own a stake in clubs and for sports stadiums to be designated as assets of community value.

More than 60 MPs are planning to attend the lobby event along with with secretaries of state and senior party officials.

Mr Evans said: “I am delighted to be attending the Supporters Direct Lobby of Parliament on behalf of Chester FC.

“We know more than most about the consequences of poor regulation and lack of control over owners of football clubs.

“We are learning first hand that supporter involvement and ownership is often tough and full of difficult decisions, but it is infinitely better than being left to individuals without accountability.

“We are very pleased to be adding the voice of our club to the aims of Supporters Direct to increase the influence of supporters throughout the game.  Football is too important to be left unregulated.

“In 10 years’ time, most clubs will have significant supporter representation and the majority will be supporter owned.

“The sooner this is brought about, the fewer clubs will have to go what we went through three years ago.”
