Wanted's Max says Chester festival will be a highlight

A MEMBER of a top boy band has spoken of his delight at headlining this year’s Chester Rocks festival.

Chart-toppers The Wanted, along with songstress Jessie J, will be headlining the biggest musical extravaganza the city has ever seen when they perform at the festival, to be held at Chester Racecourse in June.

Band member Max George attended an event at The Weighing Room, Commonhall Street to officially start the build-up to the event on the weekend of June 15-16, which will also include performances from boy band Lawson and former X Factor act Union J.

Speaking to the Leader, Max said: “I can’t wait to come back here to Chester in the summer, it will be one of the highlights of the year for us for sure.

“We performed here two years ago and were just starting to get noticed then, and it was probably performing at Chester Rocks, which was our first major festival appearance. That helped kick start our career and push us on to where we are now.

“The crowd were brilliant last time around and the sun was shining. It was a brilliant day for us.

“I especially love coming back up North and, being from Manchester, always jump at the chance to perform in front of fans in the North West.

“It means my family can come along and watch me perform and have a great time.

“We are all buzzing about Chester Rocks, it’s got a great line-up this year and its going to be phenomenal.”

Festival organisers are hoping for a bumper turnout and think that, after headlining with indie acts The Courteeners and singer Pixie Lott last year, this year’s change in format will see Chester Rocks become one of the biggest dates on the festival calendar.

Chester Racecourse chief executive Richard Thomas said: “We have changed the format for this year’s Chester Rocks and have secured two of the biggest acts in the music industry to perform in the city.

“We think this will help us turn the festival into something really big, appeal to a much wider audience and get people flooding to the racecourse.

“It promises to be a memorable weekend, and even though we have secured four great acts already, we will be looking to add some more support acts to the bill in the coming weeks.”

Tickets for the event were released on Friday and will cost £32.
