A VILLAGE playgroup which has been running for 42 years is in danger of closing because of a fall in numbers.
Rossett Pre-school Playgroup is run for children aged two and a half upwards at Rossett Village Hall, Station Road, on weekdays from 9.30am-noon.
Organisers also run a toddlers group for children aged up to two and a half on Friday mornings.
At the end of the last school year the playgroup was attracting up to 20 children, but this year there are just eight left.
Claire Powell, chairman of the committee that runs the playgroup, says unless the number of children attending increases there is a real danger it could close.
“We’ve only got eight children, so because of that we’re not making enough money to keep going,” she said.
“Rossett Community Council has stepped in to provide financial support, but we need more children in order to keep it sustainable.
“I think it’s because of lots of parents are having to work full time and because we’re only open from half nine till 12 it makes it difficult for parents to pick up and drop off their children.
“If that is the case then we’d ask people to give us feedback on how we operate if there are things we can change. I also wonder if it’s because we’re in a year where fewer children were born.”
The committee is now looking at ways to raise more money.
