Trouble broke out when fans from the away end jumped over the hoardings 

TROUBLE broke out during Chester FC’s FA Cup match on Saturday.

The 1-1 draw against FC Halifax Town at the Exacta stadium was marred when fighting broke out in two separate incidents.

The first occurred in the third minute when fans from the away section jumped over the hoardings and attacked home fans behind the goal.

Twenty minutes later there was more fighting – this time at the other end, as the police and stewards struggled to deal with the violence.

Chester FC chief executive Pat Cluskey said he had been informed about the possibility of crowd trouble ahead of the FA Cup tie.

He said: “It was disappointing to hear about the problems that occurred in the first half.

“To be fair to Halifax, they did write to us during the week to advise us that they did have a potential unruly element following them at the moment, so they have been pro-active, like us.

“I'm just pleased that the police and the Chester stewards dealt with the issue as well as they did, but it is sad to see such trouble at a game of football.”

Mr Cluskey added: “The police told me after the match that three Halifax fans had been arrested and that one Halifax fan had been ejected after one of the goals.

“We have had several letters from the FA in the last few years concerning the behaviour of some of our supporters after our games at Chorley and Altrincham, and I would assume that there will be a report and that Halifax will be asked to provide evidence as we have in the past.”
