TWO men accused of murdering a father-of-three whose body was found in a Chester park are to stand trial.

Wesley Dennis Rowlands, 29, and Glen Robert Baker, 31, both deny killing 37-year-old David ‘Lavo’ Lavender in May.

Mr Lavender, of Sycamore Drive, Lache, was found by police officers with serious head injuries in Edgar’s Field Park in Handbridge, close to the Ship Inn pub, on the night of May 20.

Rowlands, of Chevron Close, Blacon, and Baker, of Pulford Road, Chester, both pleaded not guilty during a preliminary appearance at Chester Crown Court yesterday to murdering Mr Lavender.

Baker, dressed in black, and Rowlands, wearing a T-shirt, spoke only to confirm their names and enter their pleas to the charge during the short hearing.

The pair were remanded in custody until their trial begins at Chester Crown Court on November 12.

The trial is expected to last for between two and three weeks.

Following David ‘Lavo’ Lavender’s death his parent paid tribute to a “kind and loving family man”.

His parents Dolly and Tony said at the time: “We are all completely devastated at the loss of our beloved David.

“He leaves behind three young children who remain our focus at this point. His death has shocked family and friends to the core.

“He was a kind and loving family man who had grown up and lived in Lache all of his life.”

Former Lache Primary School and Queen’s Park High School pupil Mr Lavender is survived by three children Georgie, Ruby and Josh.
