A MURDER investigation has been launched after a man’s body was discovered in a house.

Officers from Cheshire Police found the body at an address in Eversley Park, Chester, at about 8.15pm on Friday.

A 41-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman have been arrested and are currently being held on suspicion of murder.

Cheshire Police say they believe they know the identity of the victim and are trying to contact his next of kin.

No formal identification of the body has taken place.

Officers made the grim discovery when they went to interview a witness of a glassing, which happened just before 5pm the same evening, at the subway near the Fountain’s roundabout in Chester.

A 53-year-old man, of no fixed abode, sustained serious injuries to his wrists, hand and head when he was attacked with a broken bottle.

He was taken to hospital and his condition was not thought to be life threatening.

The male murder suspect has also been arrested for the serious assault.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “Officers involved in the investigation into the assault visited an address in Eversley Park to interview a witness.

“The officers entered a premises in Eversley Park where they discovered the body of man.

“Enquiries have continued overnight to establish the identify of the body and the circumstances surrounding the man's death.”

Police cordoned off the area in front of the Bull and Stirrup pub in Upper Northgate Street.

Witnesses reported seeing pools of blood on the pavement.

Anyone who witnessed the assault or has any information concerning the incident in Eversley Park is asked to contact Cheshire Police using the 101 number quoting incident 782 of August 31.
