A LLANDUDNO man helped rescue a trapped lorry driver after an accident which brought a halt to a major expressway.

Richard Brownson, a construction site manager for Costain Ltd, helped rescue a driver from his cab after the overturned Scanla meat lorry blocked the A55.last week.

Mr Brownson, who was coming along the west-bound carriageway from Llanfairfechan, rushed to the scene of the accident with other passers-by.

He said: "I could see a huge cloud of white smoke - probably the height of a house.

"I could see the young lad sat in the back of the truck – myself and another guy both tried to kick the windows in but it was toughened glass. And there was that much diesel on the road we both found it really slippery."

After obtaining a shovel from another rescuer, Mr Brownson was able to break the window and pull out the driver, before administering basic first aid and waiting for the emergency services.

He added: "It was good to see that response with everybody helping."
