A GIRL band which recently starred at Chester Rocks are stepping into the spotlight again to raise money to fight one of the world’s rarest diseases.
The five-strong Indigo City are taking part in the ‘Music for the Greater Good’ evening at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel in Warrington Road, Chester, on July 5, from 7pm-11pm.
The event will be in aid of charity LAM Action, which funds research into lymphangioleiomyomatosis (known as LAM) which causes cysts to form in the lungs.
There is currently no cure and for many patients a lung transplant remains the only option. The disease affects just over one in a million women in the UK.
Band member Olivia Thomas, 24, said: “LAM Action is a charity extremely close to our hearts as my Auntie Sally suffers from this terrible disease.
“We have seen first hand what it can do to not only the woman but to their friends and family. We are passionate about making a difference and want to help people affected by this illness.
“There are only a handful of women in the country with LAM so it’s unlikely these women will know anyone living nearby going through the same experiences that they can talk with.”
She added: “LAM Action provides a support network for them and allows them to fight their illness together, as well as carrying out pioneering clinical research into treating the disease.”
In addition to Olivia, Indigo City comprises Sophie Parry, 25, and Lottie Britton, 24, from Chester and Laura Wakefield, 22, Liverpool and Bonnie-Mae Kearns, 22, from Liverpool.
The group, who formed in 2010 take inspiration from a wide range of artists including Rihanna and Jesse J, and choreograph and produce their own music.
The group were invited to perform by Leonie Hallam, of event management and charity fundraising company Aardvarker. Music for the Greater Good is also raising funds for the National Autistic Society.
