Olympic torch is on its way to Conwy

THE SPIRIT of the London games will be coming to Conwy next week as the Olympic Torch relay passes through the county on Tuesday.

The torch will spend six hours in the county on Tuesday May 29, travelling through Conwy, Deganwy, Llandudno, Penrhyn Bay, Rhos on Sea, Colwyn Bay, Old Colwyn, Abergele, Towyn and Kinmel Bay.

Council leader Cllr Dilwyn Roberts said: “We’re very excited and honoured that the torch will be visiting so many communities in the county and I urge everyone to support the relay as it passes their house or office.”

The torch is set to arrive in Conwy around 8.40am before being carried along Bangor Road, Town Ditch Road, Berry Street and Conway Road and on to Llandudno Junction.

Deganwy is the next stop for the torch, which will be brought along Glan y Môr Road, Station Road, Deganwy Road, and on to Llandudno at around 9.38am, where torchbearers will carry the flame along Bryniau Road, Great Ormes Road, Gloddaeth Avenue and the North Parade.

The flame will be transported around the Orme before heading along The Parade and Colwyn Road and arriving in Penrhyn Bay around 11.21am.

Torchbearers will transport the flame along Llandudno Road and Brompton Avenue into Rhos on Sea and then on to Colwyn Bay via Conway and Abergele Road at around 11.52am.

The relay will reume after lunch, heading back onto Abergele Road an on to Old Colwyn and Abergele.

Spectators along the relay route are advised to stand on the nearside as the relay travels from east to west, with disruption expected across the county for the duration of the event.
