SCALEXTRIC enthusiasts can put their trigger fingers to the test after the formation of a slot car club in Rhuddlan.
The North Wales Slot Car Club, the only one of its kind in the area, is looking for new members to put their racing skills to the test on an impressive 95ft track.
Founding club member David Vine, who has been slot car racing for more than 45 years, said anybody with a need for speed was welcome to join the new club, which is opening after six months of hard work perfecting the track.
“It’s something that starts when you’re kids - some people get given a Scalextric by their dad for Christmas and that’s the end of it, but others really enjoy it and want to take it further,” he said.
“We’ve bought the circuit which used to be a Bolton, and made some adjustments and improvements, and now we’re inviting other members to come and take part.”
“The track is 95ft per lap. When you go to the big championships, they can be up to 150 - 200ft per lap, but this is the biggest one in the area.”
The club will be hosting a series of in-house championships over the coming year, giving members a chance to hone their skills and engage in some friendly competition, with the aim of eventually hosting a round of the British Slot League championship or a qualifying round of the British Open Championship.
The club meets at Unit 11A of the HTM Business Park on Abergele Road every Monday and Thursday from 7pm until 10pm and on Sundays from 2pm until 5pm.
New members are welcome to bring their own cars and controllers, or hire for a small fee, with some of the clubs expert drivers on hand to offer advice and encouragement to all those wishing to have a go.
