CALLS for cycle lanes to be introduced on a busy road have been dismissed.

Last week Cllr Klaus Armstrong Braun, who represents the Saltney Mold Junction ward on Flintshire Council, called for cycle lanes on Sandy Lane in Saltney amid concerns over safety.

But Saltney Stonebridge councillor Veronica Gay said the road was wide enough to accommodate cyclists.

She said: “Sandy Lane is a very wide road. Cycle lanes are not marked on the road, but it is wide enough for cyclists.

“They are not being forced to use the pavements.”

Cllr Gay said the road had become safer for cyclists and pedestrians since she successfully campaigned to have the speed limit cut to 30mph.
