Danny Alfei believes he will develop further as a player after arriving to help Wrexham in their push for promotion.
The 19-year-old, who signed a three-year deal with the Swansea City last season, has joined Wrexham on loan until the end of the season as part of the deal that saw Curtis Obeng move to the Premier League side.
Restricted to just one appearance this season in the League Cup defeat against Shrewsbury Town, highly-rated Alfei featured three times last term, winning the man of the match award on his debut in the FA Cup win over Colchester United.
And the Wales under 21 international captain is looking forward to the experience of senior football with the Reds.
“It is going well at Swansea,” said Alfei. “It is good to watch the Premier League games and train with the first-team boys as well.
“The new players that have come in test you, it is hard to play against them so it makes you progress as a player.
“You learn from watching the games against the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea but I have always known I needed to go out and get some experience.
“It will toughen me up as a player, playing in front of crowds under pressure – especially with Wrexham going for promotion.
“It is definitely another step in my career. It is a good set-up, a decent side, it will be good to play with the boys in the league against good sides so it will only help with my career.”
Alfei, who can also operate as a centre-back, is hoping to be a more than adequate replacement for Obeng who joined Swansea for an undisclosed fee on transfer deadline day.
“I don’t really mind either position but right-back is more the position I have come to fill-in here,” said Alfei.
“Hopefully I can do as good a job as Curtis or better, and prove I am good enough to fit into this team.”
With Swansea City having an excellent first season in the Premier League, and Cardiff challenging for promotion as well as reaching the League Cup final, Alfei wants to play his part and help Wrexham end their Football League exile.
“I am looking forward to playing here, it is another Welsh club as well. It will be good to try and help get a Welsh club into the Football League,” he said.
“It is going well for Swansea and Cardiff at the moment but it would be nice to get another Welsh club back into the league.
“The aim is to finish top of the league and get automatic promotion.
“It is a good team here, I have watched them play before, I am just hoping I can help and make sure promotion happens.”
Alfei is already familiar with some of his new team-mates, as goalkeeper Chris Maxwell and another new signing, Robert Ogleby, are both Wales under 21 internationals.
“It helps knowing a few of the boys from the Wales set-up and the few games I have played with them,” said Alfei. “But it is good to meet the new lads as well and get along with other players too.
“I just hope I can come in and help the lads in the fight for promotion.”
Also signing on until the end of the season is veteran Glen Little.
The popular winger has been on a monthly deal at The Racecourse but has now signed on for the rest of the campaign.
