RESIDENTS at a sheltered housing scheme in Abergele can now park with pride, knowing their wheels are safe, thanks to funding from a local community association.

With many of the residents using mobility scooters at Pentre Mawr, a sheltered housing scheme for over 55s managed by Clwyd Alyn Housing Association, finding space to park up and recharge their vehicle was becoming something of a headache.

A grant of £2,000 made by Conwy Voluntary Services Council on behalf of the Welsh Government, has enabled them to convert a former bin storage area into a dedicated area to store the mobility scooters safely.

Alison Pring, Pentre Mawr warden, said, “Our residents are very independent and an increasing number use mobility scooters to get out and about, but it was causing a bit of a problem as it was becoming a bit of a hazard with residents jostling for space in the communal hallway to recharge them.

“Creating this storage area has helped many of our residents to stay independent and continue to play an active part in the wider community.”
