ACTON VILLAGE 2
CAERWYS 2
IT was an Acton-packed affair as Caerwys claimed a point to warm up for their biggest match of the season.
They take on Connah’s Quay Tigers in the semi-finals of the Clwyd League (East) President’s Cup this weekend and Caerwys would have gone into the tie on the back of a defeat had Nick Voyle not levelled things up with a superb strike.
Caerwys were gifted a dream start at Acton when they were awarded a penalty in the first minute for handball.
Lee Jones made no mistake from the spot.
There were few chances created by either side during the remainder of the half, although Geraint Jones went close for the away side when his free kick from 40 yards out was missed by everyone and the ball bounced back out off an upright.
The second half saw Acton come more into the game and they scored two soft goals in quick succession as the Caerwys defence failed to clear what appeared to be harmless balls into the box.
Caerwys substitutes Gaz Henley and Nick Voyle put a bit of spark into the match and with Acton reduced to 10 men for the last 10 minutes following a red card, it was the visitors who were pressing.
The equaliser finally came two minutes from time when Andrew Swann's header fell nicely for Nick Voyle on the edge of the box and his volley from 18 yards gave the keeper no chance.
