NANT CONWY got revenge for their league defeat to title rivals Caernarfon by dumping the Cofi’s out of the SWALEC Plate with a 28-5 victory.

The hosts put top of the table Caernarfon under pressure from the first whistle, and skipper Elgan Davies settled their nerves after a couple of early missed opportunities by forcing the ball over the line to open the scoring.

Carwyn ap Myrddin converted, and then stretched the lead by rounding off a superb flowing move under the posts, securing a 14-0 lead at half-time.

Caernarfon struck back through Dylan Gwyn early in the second half, but Nant gradually became more dominant as the match wore on, and with six minutes left on the clock Carwyn Ellis made forward pressure pay with his side’s third try of the match.

There was still time for Flanker Eryl Jones to add a fourth, with Carwyn ap Myrddin converting to seal a handsome 28-5 win ahead of this weekend’s derby match-up with Llandudno.

COLWYN Bay were toppled in their weekend cup match, dropping out of the SWALEC Bowl competition with a fourth round 22-12 defeat to Division Two title hopefuls COBRA.

The Bay’s Second string were also beaten, going down 30-0 to Mold in the Clwyd Cup.

After going behind early, the Bay played well in the middle half of the match with centre Serge Cabazuelo a cruel bounce away from a try, but as they tired Mold increased their lead with two late tries.

The Ceebees are now in the Plate competition with a fixture against Rhos Wrexham, as they look to reach their fourth final in four years.
