ORGANISERS of the biggest firework display on the Chester calendar have secured a five year deal at the Roodee.
Chester Lions Club said the annual fireworks display at Chester Racecourse will be even “bigger and better” on November 3 this year.
The display which attracts up to 15,000 people, will this year have its opening hours extended to 5.30pm to 9pm and include improved catering facilities.
Peter Upton, fundraising chairman, said: “We have made the entry time earlier to boost it as a family event.
“We will still have the funfair but this time the racecourse has offered to supply the catering so we should have a hog roast, candyfloss and a barbecue grill.
“We hope it will be bigger and better.
We have been liaising with Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, the council and Chester Renaissance and the racecourse and have managed to secure a five year deal, the longest deal the Lions have had in 40 years.”
The event which raised more than £20,000 for local charities last year, is now on the hunt for a major sponsor.
“It costs a lot of money to put on event like this and we really need this year to go with a bang,” added Mr Upton.
A stage featuring live bands will entertain crowds and there will be face painting for youngsters.
He said: “From when it first started at the old entrance to the zoo to what it is now is phenomenal.
“It is a great opportunity to raise masses of money for local causes and we are looking to make it the best event to date.”
