WREXHAM’S new Welsh centre is being tipped to go from “strength to strength” after hundreds flocked to its launch.

Saith Seren – Welsh for Seven Stars – is based at the former Chester Street pub which closed suddenly last year.

The new centre, which was opened by Wrexham FC legend Dixie McNeil, aims to celebrate Welsh culture and Saith Seren chairman Cllr Marc Jones said the opening weekend had been hugely successful.

He said “We had a remarkable turnout and we are very pleased with the way things went.

“I know everybody enjoyed themselves because they were dancing around and we had an impromptu sing-song.

“All of the feedback has been really positive and I think we can only go from strength to strength.”

Live bands Gwibdaith Hen Frân and Wee Bag Band entertained crowds and the new menu of locally sourced food and drink proved popular with diners.

Cllr Jones said: “The Welsh Rarebit was a big hit and we ran out of Wrexham Lager on Friday, but we managed to arrange a new delivery in time for Saturday.

“We were turning people away at one point on Saturday night because we just didn’t have any capacity.

“Each night we had a different crowd in with a good mix of people.”

Future plans for the centre include regular live music nights, poetry events and film screenings.

Cllr Jones also hopes rugby fans will visit the centre during the upcoming Six Nations tournament.

He said: “The Seven Stars is a landmark building in the town and it is great to see it back in use.

“It is only six months since we first appealed for people to help us open the centre
and it is fantastic to see how far we have come.”

None, particularly...just that he's remembered as a hero by Bulls fans, too.

There's been a Welsh Club in Hereford for decades, so seems rather fitting for a Bulls hero to celebrate Wrexham finally catching up and opening its own!!
