A DELIVERY driver from Chester was assaulted during a terrifying hijack.
Detectives are appealing for information about the attack, which happened when the 56-year-old driver was making a delivery for a freight company.
He was assaulted and pushed to the floor after getting out of his vehicle in Woodland View, Childer Thornton, at about 11.30am on Tuesday.
One of the suspects then got into the delivery van, a plain white Mercedes Sprinter-type van with the registration KN61 ZYT, and drove off.
There were a number of parcels aboard bound for addresses in the Chester and Ellesmere Port areas.
The victim sustained minor injuries but did not need hospital treatment.
Police are exploring a number of lines of inquiry including the sighting of a blue Ford Mondeo parked on the A41 at its junction with New Road at the time of the incident.
The same car was seen to leave the area at the same time as the van.
DS Rob Grantham said: “Nobody should be alarmed by this incident. We’ve not had any similar incidents recently, this is not something that happens every day.
“However drivers, especially those in newer cars, should be mindful of their surroundings. If there is anyone suspicious or if they think someone is watching their vehicle, do not park near them.
“But in this instance it was something this driver could not have avoided as he was a delivery man delivering some packages.”
He added: “I’d be keen to speak to anyone who has seen the described van. It was heading in the direction of Merseyside so we are liaising with police there.”
One of the hijackers has been described as an Asian male, aged between 18 and 25 years old. He was clean shaven and dressed in a navy blue Adidas sweater and blue jeans.
The second suspect, who was seen near the scene, was a white man of very heavy build, aged in his early 40s and unshaven with black/greying hair.
He was dressed in a hooded grey and black coat, black ill-fitting tracksuit bottoms, and dirty white trainers. He is described as having a “noticeable paunch”.
Anybody with information is asked to contact DC Rob Marshall at Ellesmere Port CID on 101 quoting incident 251 of January 24.
