PLANS for a tourist development aimed boosting Llandudno could see Alice climb back out of the Rabbit Hole.

Members of the Badgers Group, who also own the Coffee Culture cafe above Waterstones, are planning to move ahead with their Alice Project after acquiring a collection of Wonderland-themed memorabilia.

The Llandudno-based business team, made up of Barry Mortlock, Simon Burrows and Irene Burrows, are looking for suitable premises to relocate the exhibits and models which they bought from Muriel Ratcliffe, former owner of the Rabbit Hole on Trinity Square.

The exhibits, which include life-sized models of characters such as Alice, the White Rabbit and the Mad Hatter, would form the basis of an interactive educational centre.

Barry Mortlock said the trio had been attracted to the development because of its potential to bring visitors from around the world to the town, given that the Alice tale is famous in more than 70 countries.

Mr Mortlock said: "We will be connecting with Japanese and American tourists. They all come into London and never think of coming into Wales.

“We've got something that could change their minds. That's our goal."

He cited the success of similar literary tourism sites, such as the Beatrix Potter centre in the Lake District, as another motive for the group's decision.

The town has a link with the Lewis Carroll's Alice stories - Alice Liddell, the inspiration for the tales, visited the town as a girl.
