TWO people have been taken to hospital following a helicopter crash near Lake Vyrnwy.

Mid and West Wales Fire Service were called to attend the incident by the Ambulance Service at around 1.15pm today (January 16).

Two casualties, a male and a female, were taken to hospital with what were described as non life threatening injuries.

The fire service said that the helicopter had crashed into a hillside near to the Lake Vyrnwy Hotel.

The rescue operation had seen the Air Rescue Co-ordination Centre (ARCC) dispatch an RAF Helicopter from RAF Valley in Anglesey to attend the scene.

Both casualties were then taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital by the RAF.

15 firefighters and an officer tackled a blaze following the accident.
