A FACEBOOK campaign is being launched today as the search for Michael Murphy continues.
The 32-year-old from Mold was last seen on January 4 when he left the Convatec factory on Deeside Industrial Estate at about 6am.
Users of the social networking site are being asked to change their profile pictures to an image of Mr Murphy and a yellow ribbon in a bid to raise awareness of the search.
Family friend Annette Thomas who is launching the Yellow Ribbon campaign said it will run this weekend and every weekend until Mr Murphy is found.
She said: “We are asking people to change their profile pictures to try to get the message of the search out to people who may not have seen it.
“The family is hoping this could be the breakthrough needed.
“We are doing a lot of things to keep it at the forefront of people’s minds. Whatever we can do to help the family we will.”
Mr Murphy’s red Volkswagen Polo was recovered by police from the Flintshire Bridge at 2pm on the day he disappeared after it was reported by a member of the
public.
Mrs Thomas said: “We are trying many different approaches to show support for the family. The idea is to try and get this picture on as many Facebook walls as possible which will have the benefit of generating new interest.
“The family want to thank North Wales Police and everyone who has been involved in the Facebook campaign and in raising awareness.”
Mrs Thomas said she is hoping as many people as possible will join the campaign.
Police staged a reconstruction on Wednesday using Mr Murphy’s car, stopping motorists along the Flintshire Bridge.
Officers said it brought new leads to the investigation.
Speaking at the scene, his distraught mother Ann, 57, described her son as a “sociable, loving guy” and said the disappearance was “out of character”.
More than 2,400 people have joined a group on Facebook set up to trace his whereabouts and posters have been put up as far afield as Blackpool in the hunt for Mr Murphy.
He is 5ft 10ins tall, of medium build with short, fair hair, which is balding.
At the time of his disappearance he was wearing a dark grey flat cap, a long, dark grey duffle coat, blue jeans and white Adidas trainers with three black stripes on the side.
Anyone with information can call North Wales Police on 101.
