A BEAUTY queen is urging people get on their bikes to help beat bulimia.
Katharine Watson, is taking part in a 25 mile sponsored bike ride from Llandudno to Abergele on January 29.
The Miss Heart of Wales beauty pageant entrant chose to support the event organised by Beat Cymru, a charity which helps people with eating disorders, due to her mother’s struggle with bullimia.
She said: “I only recently found out about my Mum’s bulimia. She suffered with it from age 17 until about 33. It would have been until I was about 10 years old.”
Katharine, who lives in Abergele, said her mother’s plight made her think carefully about her own relationship with food.
She said: “I’m conscious that I don’t want to ever suffer what my Mum did and it makes me want to spread the word about others getting help.
My Father passed away three years ago from lung cancer and for a while I think I found myself turning to food for comfort.”
Despite feeling insecure about her body as a teenager, Katharine said she was now happy with her form, and aimed to be healthy and enjoy life.
Two rides take place on the day, one leaving from the Welcome to Llandudno sign, and one from the Pantri Bach in Abergele.
Riders will turn around once they reach the opposite landmark and cycle back to where they came from.
