Missing: Michael Murphy.

THE mother of man missing for almost a week have spoken of how desperate his family are to hear from him.

Ann Murphy has thanked everyone who has helped so far in the hunt for her son, 32-year-old Michael Murphy, from Mold, following his mystery disappearance on January 4.

She said: “Please, if anyone saw anything on the morning of Wednesday, January 4 at around 6.15am onwards, contact the police.

“Many thanks also to North Wales Police, the RNLI and search and rescue teams for their continuing efforts.

“We ask everyone to remain vigilant, to check any caravans, buildings and outhouses and report any possible sightings to the police.

“All we can do at this time is pray and hope for his safe return.
“Please come home Michael, or get in touch and let us know that you are OK.”

Mr Murphy’s aunt, Peggy Murphy, who is a senior nursing lecturer at Wrexham’s Glyndwr University and lives in Coedpoeth, has asked people to display the ‘missing’ poster which his family and friends have produced as part of their frantic campaign to trace him. Mr Murphy was last seen on Wednesday when he left the Convatec factory on Deeside Industrial Estate, where he worked on the shopfloor, at about 6am.

His red Volkswagen Polo car was recovered by police from the Flintshire Bridge at 2pm the same day after it was reported by a member of the public.

Tomorrow North Wales Police are carrying out a reconstruction of the events leading up to Mr Murphy’s disappearance.

Officers will be using his car during the reconstruction in the hope it may jog people’s memories.

An extensive search of the river embankments involving North Wales Police officers, the helicopter from the North West Air Operations Unit, the Coastguard, RNLI, the Search and Rescue Dogs Association (SARDA) and the regional Police Underwater Search Team continued over the weekend.

Yesterday Peggy Murphy said: “I and the rest of his family are desperate to hear from Michael himself or anyone who has information about where he might be.”
Another of Mr Murphy’s aunts, Annette Thomas, has set up a Facebook page appealing for his safe return.

Mr Murphy is 5ft 10ins tall, of medium build with short, fair hair, which is balding.
At the time of his disappearance he was wearing a dark grey flat cap, a long, dark grey duffle coat, blue jeans and white Adidas trainers with three black stripes on the side.

Anyone with information can call North Wales Police on 101.
The poster can be downloaded from the Facebook site, “Missing Michael Murphy”.

Meanwhile friends and relatives of Michael Murphy have been combing the banks of the River Dee to help find him.

Scores of friends – including his football team-mates from Aston Park Rangers – took to the river on Saturday to hunt for clues.

Three football matches were also cancelled over the weekend to allow players to join the search for Mr Murphy.

A spokesman for the Clwyd Football League said: “Matches at Aston Park Rangers, FC Nomads and Connah's Quay Tigers have been postponed as the search for Mike Murphy continues.

“Mike Murphy plays for Aston Park Rangers and has been associated with several clubs in the area.” More than 1,600 people have joined a group on the social networking site, Facebook, to try to trace his whereabouts.
