AN Anglesey fish farm that employs 25 people is believed to be in financial trouble.

The farm at Dinmor Quarry, Penmon, is run by Selonda UK, a Greek-owned company and produces 1,000 tonnes of sea bass every year.

Anglesey AM, Ieuan Wyn Jones, said: “I am aware of the situation regarding the company and I am working with the Welsh Government to seek a solution to try to ensure a future for the operation.

“There are 25 people working there in good jobs and I understand too the importance of the company to the local economy.”

The Welsh Government, which has given around £5 million pounds in grants to the farm since it was established in 2002, has confirmed it is in talks to help find a solution to the problems.

An Environment Agency Wales spokesman also added: "We are aware of the difficulties at Selonda UK and are working with the company to understand their plans for meeting their environmental obligations."

Selonda UK pleaded guilty at Holyhead Magistrates Court in October to permitting the discharge of "trade effluent and chemicals" on land at Penmon.

The company's managing director Andre Bravo Santos told BBC Wales he is discussing various options with a number of parties.
