A DISTRAUGHT dog owner has spoken of her heartache after her beloved collie was savaged by another dog.

Moira Simpson, of Porters Croft, Guilden Sutton, was left traumatised when her 10-year-old dog Alice was attacked during a regular morning run in the village.

Moira said another walker, who had two dogs with her at the time, crossed over Guilden Sutton Lane, on the motorway bridge to her side, when one of her dogs leapt at Alice.

“The next thing I knew I was pressed against the motorway barrier with cars underneath me and the dog had Alice’s throat,” said Moira.

“In the drama of it all, I found myself then in the middle of the road trying desperately to get the dog off her neck.

“I was shouting ‘get off’ but the woman was so laid back she didn’t say anything.

She was just being dragged by the dog.”

Moira, who works as a fitness instructor at Engerie Fitness, Chester, said: “I managed to get away and I had asked the woman her name but she didn’t respond.

I was going to follow her home so I could report her but I was too upset and shocked by what had happened.”

Mother-of-two Moira found blood spattered across Alice’s coat when she arrived home and on later inspection by her vet found teeth marks in the back of her head and a large gash under her chin.

The incident, which happened at about 6am on Tuesday, November 8, left Alice needing nine stitches costing Moira about £380 in vet bills.

Moira, 47, said the same dogs had attacked her German Shepherd cross, 13-year-old Sadie, in a similar incident on Belle Vue Lane about two months ago, but the dog was luckily left unharmed.

She added: “She is certainly no dog lover, people like her give other dog owners a bad name. She has a dangerous dog which shouldn’t be out without a muzzle.”

Moira, who has handled dogs since she was 19, fears that if her nine-month-old son Luca had been on the walk with her the consequences could have been even worse.

Cheshire Police have been informed about the incident and have spoken to a woman in the Guilden Sutton area. The investigation is ongoing.
