AN ORGANISER for a Colwyn Bay communities group raised funds for a community co-operative by taking on two marathons.

Wyn Roberts-Parry, 39, project co-ordinator for Arc Communities Colwyn Bay, pitched in to raise funds for the group by tackling the Chester Marathon and Snowdonia Marathon within three weeks of one another.

He took part in the Chester race on October 9, completing the course in three hours, 48 minutes and 48 seconds.

He said: "A marathon is an emotional roller coaster. You know at the start that there will be pain, doubts, massive highs and lows, more pain, more highs and more lows! It is as much a mental challenge as it is physical."

Mr Roberts-Parry was concerned that the effects of the Chester run could have held back his performance during the Snowdonia event - which has a climb of more than 2800ft - but found only a minute and a half's difference between his two results, crossing the line at three hours, 50 minutes and 11 seconds. This beat his previous record at the Snowdonia Marathon by 30 minutes.

He said: "On the descent down into Llanberis, which is a good off road section, the constant rain had turned it into a mud slide but I knew I had to run quick down if I had any chance of getting sub four, so I ran on very tired legs - resulting in me falling down at one point, but I bounced back up and continued my descent!"
He added that he will be taking part in the Conwy Half-Marathon on November 20.
