CHAZ Davies will make his World Superbike Championship debut in 2012 on a Ducati, after agreeing a deal to stay with the ParkinGO team which he rode to World Supersport Championship glory.
The ParkinGO team had made no secret of its desire to graduate to Superbikes having romped to the 2011 WSS title with Yamaha, but while it was keen to maintain ties with the Japanese manufacturer, it has instead opted to run a satellite Ducati operation.
And unsurprisingly Presteigne-based World Supersport champion Davies has been earmarked to front the team, having won nine races in last season’s championship winning campaign.
Davies closed the 2011 campaign in style with a last round victory at Portimao.
Following a remarkable 12 podium finishes and nine race wins out of the 12 rounds of the 2011 season, Davies’ Yamaha team proudly clinched the 2011 Manufacturer's World title with a total of 251 points.
World Champion Chaz Davies was on form again and snatched the chequered flag to add yet another race win to his numerous achievements.
The Welshman took the lead off the grid and continued to dominate the 20 lap race, while team-mate Luca Scassa also put in a strong performance to work his way up from eighth place off the grid to finish in fourth.
Davies said: “This was the best possible way to end an amazing season. It was a tough race, I had a good start, put my head down but started losing the front and had to work hard to keep pushing. I’m worn out actually but I really enjoyed the race.
“I had a great package, great bike and the team did a great job and I couldn’t ask for anything more. The entire year has been amazing and the title and today is just a dream come true.”
