MORE than 150 events and activities will take place across Cheshire West and Chester this weekend to celebrate this year’s London 2012 Olympic Games Open Weekend.
Celebrating one year to go to the huge event it will feature art, dance, film, and sport events.
Cllr Stuart Parker, executive member for culture and recreation, said: “This is a perfect opportunity to try new sports, arts and family activities with events going on throughout the borough.
“I will be joining members of a fitness class, meeting some of our sports stars of the future and people involved in planning our spectacular welcome for the Olympic Torch next May. I encourage you to take full advantage of this unique open weekend to try something new and thank all our participating cultural partners for making this such a special weekend. Have a wonderful time.”
Ellesmere Port has a wide variety of activities; The Whitby Park Open Day has an afternoon of free activities including a chance to meet members of Action Transport Theatre who are based within the Whitby Hall and see rehearsals for their 10 Tiny Plays (1pm - 3.30pm).
There will be Bowling taster sessions at the bowling green and Sports Frenzy on the multi-games court between 2pm-4pm. A Local History Walk in the park starts at 2pm (meeting outside Whitby Hall). Whitby Park Friends will also be in the play area with giant games and information about their forthcoming summer event.
Come along and meet them between 1pm-3pm.
The Epic Sports Centre has swimming, gym and general sports activities plus children taking part in the activities can also enter the free design an Olympics T-Shirt competition. Neston Library has a Circus Stars Drama Workshop with Little Actors Theatre Company. This is a free event for all the family but booking is required on 0151 337 4670.
Neston Recreation Centre is also offering swimming, gym and general sports activities.
