The school term is ending and the summer is here! Now is a perfect time to test the claims of the childrenswear manufacturers that their clothes can take the pounding dished out by children across the land. Listed below are ideas for three activities that will not only give children clothes and quite possibly their parents a workout, but will ensure excited, happy youngsters on at least three occasions during the holidays.

1. Visit A Theme Park

Nothing is sure to get a child’s heart beating with excitement more than the promise of a trip to one of the top theme parks in Britain. You can save money by booking in advance and taking advantage of any offers that the major theme parks may be running for advanced booking. It is important to remember the vagaries of the British weather on the day and ensure that you have packed suitable dry and wet weather clothing for children and adults alike. From nearby Camelot in Lancashire and Alton Towers and Drayton Manor in Staffordshire, to the more distant Chessington in Surrey, a day at a theme park will live long in the memory.

2. Go Ape

There is nothing children like more than playing outdoors, scuffing knees, climbing trees, building rope bridges and clambering across terrain that no sane adult would consider. Across the country are a range of Go Ape forestry courses that allow children (and insane adults) the chance to do just that! Climb up into the trees to challenge yourself on a course of ropes, swings, bridges, slides and more in an adventure that is sure to get the heart racing. Go Ape is located at many forestry venues nationwide including Crathes Castle in Aberdeen, Delamere Forest in Cheshire and Haldon Forest in Devon.

3. A Visit To Hamleys In London

There is nothing quite like a visit to Hamleys toys shop. No other toy store is guaranteed to excite a child more than the thought of heading to central London to visit this iconic store, especially if mum and dad are going to foot the bill. The day in London will also provide parents and guardians with a great bargaining tool for children to behave, especially if you are forced into walking around London’s shops seeking shoes, school clothes for children and a wide variety of other necessities they need before they go back to school in September. Alternatively, if you have their school uniform already sorted, the capital has a wealth of attractions to keep children of all ages interested and amused such as London Zoo, the London Eye, the scary London Dungeon and of course Madame Tussauds.

Keeping children entertained during the summer need not be arduous; these three simple ideas are a great way to spend quality time as a family whatever the weather.
