A FATHER has told of his fears for his daughter after a hit and run on a zebra crossing.

Chris Morris, of Cyman Close, Blacon, has appealed to the driver to come forward after his beloved dog, Jasmine, was struck by a car.

The 31-year-old was crossing Western Avenue, Blacon, with daughter Kacie, four, and his Staffordshire bull terrier when a car came hurtling towards them.

Mr Morris said: “I was a third of the way across the road with my daughter and Jazz, who was two to three yards in front of me.

“A car being driven by a man in his late 50s or early 60s proceeded to drive right over the raised crossing, ran Jazz over and continued down Western Avenue toward Sealand Road.”

And Mr Morris believes his daughter, who attends Dee Point Primary School in Blacon, could have also been a victim.

He said: “Jazz suffered only an injury to her leg and limped the 300 yards home.
“But my daughter could have been the one two steps in front.”

Mr Morris says the driver of the light blue car failed to stop following the incident, at about 6pm on Monday.

He has since reported it to police.

He added: “If he didn’t notice hitting 20kg of solid muscle and couldn’t hear me shouting with his window down, then he could just as easily hit a small child and not notice.

“I was too busy tending to my dog and my daughter to get his registration.

“If anyone saw the incident and has an idea of the registration or even knows who it is I would ask them to come forward."

Mr Morris, who has trained the dog since it was five months old, says Jasmine has an “excellent road sense”.

He added: “Jasmine instinctively uses it (the zebra crossing) as she has done for four years.

“Cars often stop for her but I am always close by and have her on a verbal lead just in case.

“She never moves from my side from Blacon to Saltney via either the Curzon Park footbridge or Ferry Lane and along busy roads.

“We use all the correct crossings if and when we need to cross.”

He has called for drivers to be more aware of pedestrians of all kinds on the roads.
Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident to call 0845 458 0000 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting incident number 745 of July 11.
