RECORD-breaking crowds helped make this year’s Blacon Community Festival the “biggest and most community-spirited” to date.
More than 4,000 people enjoyed the action-packed event which served to celebrate life in Blacon.
Organisers are already busy planning for 2012 and are inviting ideas to help build on the success of the spectacle.
Helen Blank, programme co-ordinator for Blacon Community Trust which organised the festival in partnership with Chester and District Housing Trust, said:
“This year there was an even greater atmosphere in the air, a real sense of community spirit.
“People really came in to their own. It was amazing to see. The event just gets bigger and better every year and this year’s event was certainly the best to date. Well done and thank you to all.”
Melisa Boughey, main organiser of the occasion, said: “The event was a huge success and I am proud to have been involved.”
Saturday’s festival featured fundraising stalls for up to 30 charities, together with health awareness, recruitment and education stands.
Meanwhile there were performances by Blacon theatre groups, Blacon High Free Runners, drama, music, a funfair, bouncy castles and pony rides. All proceeds from the event will be used to expand next year’s festival.
