COUNCIL bosses are celebrating after they were presented with an award for having some of the best coaches in the country.

Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWaC) scooped the runners-up award for ‘The Most Coach Friendly Local Authority’ at the UK Coach Awards in Manchester.

CWaC was short listed following nominations from coach operators who are readers of Coach and Bus Week magazine, and asked to nominate towns and/or cities whose provision for coaches they had admired during the last 12 months.

Following their nominations, Chester was short listed and was invited to submit an application.

UK coach awards noted that: “Chester is an outstanding day out heritage destination which continues to attract thousands of coaches per year. A state of the art welcome facility at the main coach park, together with a network of strategically located pick up and drop off points makes Chester a must see British City which attracts over eight million visitors a year.”

CWaC’s place marketing manager, Alison Kelly, said: “The award has been achieved through the hard work and commitment of tourism businesses working together to encourage group visits.

“The investment the local authority has made in continuing to improve the welcome to this important tourism sector has paid dividends.

“It is really pleasing that this award comes from the coach operators actually visiting the City and surrounding area.”
