DETECTIVES are appealing for help in identifying the body of a man who was pulled from the River Dee.

Emergency rescue teams raced to a position downstream from the Old Dee Bridge and before the Grosvenor Bridge in Chester at about 2.20pm last Wednesday after getting a call from a concerned member of the public.

A lifeboat crew from Flint and about half a dozen officers helped recover the body from the water after setting up an extensive cordon close to Minerva’s Shrine in Greenway Street, Handbridge.

Police have now revealed that the victim was a white man who was wearing green tracksuit bottoms with three gold stripes down the side.

A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out today.

A Cheshire Constabulary spokesman said: “The cause of death has not yet been established.

“There will be a post-mortem on Monday, so we will then have more of an idea.
“We are keen for anyone that could help to identify the body to come forward.

“We are urging that anyone who may recognise that item of clothing or who may know someone who has been missing for the past week to come forward.”

Witnesses are being asked to call Chester CID on 0845 458 0000.
Alternatively, information can be left anonymously on Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
