A FRESH strategy to help keep residents in Chester warm in their homes this winter has been launched by the council.

Cheshire West and Chester’s affordable warmth strategy has been set up to meet the increasing problem faced by people across the area who cannot afford to heat their homes due to the increased cost of fuel, insufficient insulation or inefficient heating systems.

The council aims to tackle the areas in the greatest fuel poverty and prioritise the most vulnerable people.

Cllr Herbert Manley, executive member for prosperity, said: “Rising fuel bills and more and more people risking their health by living in cold, damp homes due to fuel poverty are a major concern of this authority.

“The answer to this problem is to ensure that all homes in Cheshire West become energy efficient, through the installation of simple things like insulation and more efficient heating systems. Cheshire West and Chester Council and its partners are committed to promoting affordable warmth by tackling fuel poverty and helping to make people’s homes easier to heat.”

Until a delivery agent is appointed in January 2011, any queries about the affordable warmth strategy or about fuel poverty in general can be directed to affordablewarmth@cheshirewestand chester.gov.uk
