AN ASPIRING chef from Chester is on course to land a place in the grand final of the third annual SPAM Cook of the Year competition, and reclaim his title.
Stuart Higgs could be well on the way to glory in the coveted competition if he receives enough votes to ensure he represents the North West region in the grand final
Celebrity chef Phil Vickery is urging Chester residents to support the local chef.
Stuart was the inaugural winner of the title of SPAM Cook of the Year in 2008 for his dish of peanut butter and chilli baked SPAM on a bed of Noodle Salad.
Phil Vickery, a big SPAM fan, has been the front man of the unique national cookery competition and now Stuart is in the running to cook up his new SPAM Croquettes recipe for the man himself at the final next month. Following the eight-month search for the nation’s top SPAM Chopped Pork and Ham dish, Phil has opened the public vote and is asking for locals to decide which recipe is the best from each region.
Just one entrant will claim a place in the grand final from each of the seven regions, including someone from the North West.
Stuart is up against entries from Bramhall, Northenden, west Didsbury and central Manchester.
Residents of Chester are being encouraged to get behind Stuart and vote to see him represent the North West at www.spam uk.com.
The final will take place at London’s Good Housekeeping Institute on October 12. Here, the North West finalist will cook up their dish for a panel of high- profile judges to be sampled and scored.
