I HAD been to Revolution on Foregate Street before, though only for a drink, so had no idea what kind of food they served.
But when my friend and I arrived there one Sunday afternoon, we found it certainly looked more like a restaurant than the busy vodka bar I remembered.
Outside there were tables laid up and heat lamps to promote alfresco dining in the British winter. Inside it was nice and bright, with music playing softly in the background and a relaxed atmosphere.
There was no one at the door to seat us so we made our own way to a table and, thinking this was a sort of do-it-yourself venue, I grabbed some menus from a wooden stand on the way. However, on reaching our preferred booth we found they were already laid out.
The booth itself was very comfortable and I was facing a little window through which I could see the chef preparing food in the kitchen.
To my delight I discovered most of the food was Italian, which is by far my favourite cuisine.
There were pizzas, pasta dishes and paninis, as well as burgers and other options that seemed just perfect for a relaxing Sunday afternoon.
In no time at all, a friendly waitress came to our table to take our drinks orders – water and a large glass of California Shiraz. For our starter we opted for a sharing plate of nachos with Cajun chicken.
The nachos were served with a mountain of sour cream, salsa sauce, jalapenos, cheese and chicken. It proved to be quite a messy starter but, armed with a napkin each, we dug in until every last bit was gone.
The plates were cleared and the conversation resumed until our main meals were brought out.
For my main I had ordered a four seasons stone-baked pizza – including toppings of portobello mushrooms, pepperoni, artichokes, black olives and buffalo mozzarella cheese – with a side of onion rings.
The sauce was authentic and delicious and I’m a big fan of mozzarella. It was also great to have such a variety of toppings.
My friend chose a pizza Americana – a classic pizza topped with jalapenos and pepperoni – with a rocket salad on the side.
Our waitress returned after a few minutes to ask how our meals were, to which we replied we were thoroughly enjoying everything.
For dessert my friend asked for a warm chocolate brownie topped with vanilla ice cream. I was pretty full and only wanted a bite so I didn’t order anything extra.
The classic-tasting brownie had strong fudge flavourings and the cool ice cream was the perfect topping.
All in all we were very impressed by the food and also the quality of service.
Revolution proved to be a great place to enjoy a relaxing meal on a Sunday afternoon.
